About Emma

LUXE WEDDING CAKE ARTIST

I am drawn to the world of beautifully styled weddings, infusing my cakes with refined attention to detail and a timeless flair. At the heart of Emma Atelier Cakes is a close collaboration with the wedding couple to capture their unique wedding vision, resulting in an edible, fine art centrepiece that flawlessly encapsulates the wedding cake of their dreams.

Long before Emma Atelier Cakes was established, I was captivated by the delicate sugar floristry and elaborate piping of traditional wedding cakes. Drawing was my favourite pastime as a young child growing up in rural Gloucestershire and, once I was taught baking techniques by my mum, the seed was sown and it was only a matter of time before I chose to work in the world of luxuriously crafted wedding cakes.  With a degree in Fine Art, internationally recognised qualifications in Sugarcraft and as a longstanding art and baking enthusiast, weddings felt the only path for me to travel.

To this day, my true passion is hand piping, impressionist floral painting techniques and handcrafted sugar flowers, these techniques have a nostalgic beauty that I love, providing a wonderful essence of romance.

A wedding cake should also taste outstanding, of course. Delicious flavour is so important to me and I approach it in the same way as when I carefully decorate a cake: it should evoke joyous feelings and memories. Why use just lemons, when you can use Amalfi lemons, for example? Luxurious, fine tuned flavour and even texture combinations should excite and offer an wonderful sensory experience for you and your guests.

INSPIRE

I am inspired by a vast number of things, from artists such as the Impressionists and Pre-Raphaelites, Victorian and Roccocco buildings and interiors through to particular places I have been to or strive to experience, from the vast French Lavender fields, to the majestic beaches of the Baltic coast and beyond. One of my favourite places in the world is Riga in Latvia, where my husband is from. In this beautiful European city exists the highest concentration of Art Nouveau architecture in the world – it is a big source of style inspiration for me!  A major influence of my work is also nature in the form of flower gardens, striking flower varieties and ornamental trees such as the Magnolia, my love of flowers being a result of my sugar floristry studying as a Sugarcraft student and my current own garden project! Fashion, cinema and history can also act of catalysts for cake aesthetics. If I am to define inspiration for my cake work, it would simply be a love of timeless beauty. Inspiration really can be found everywhere though, including on a short local walk!
