Frequently Asked Questions

What style of wedding cakes do you make?

I specialise in high end sponge based wedding cakes that contain the finest quality ingredients. I have particular technical expertise in making beautiful sugar flowers and using royal icing and artistic techniques, such as impressionist floral painting on icing, to create out-of-the ordinary, bespoke cakes for elite wedding couples. Having studied colour theory in depth as part of my Fine Art degree education, I love working with a range of colour palettes, from a classic white scheme and Rococo inspired pastel shades of pink, green and blue, through to deep burgundy and black and then the bright, cool colours of purple and magenta. Take a look at the Cake Gallery to get a better idea of the style of my wedding cakes and whether we are a good fit for each other. My style can be summed up in a 3 ways: ‘Luxuriously beautiful’, ‘Timeless’ and ‘Artistically Informed.’

How do I order an Emma Atelier Cakes wedding cake?

To check my availability and order a bespoke luxury wedding cake from me, you need to firstly place an initial order query. I aim to respond to all order enquiries within 24-48 hours. After I have received your query form and gain a clearer sense of the type of design you want, I will provide you with an approximate price. If you are happy with the price, I can then offer you a no obligation 30 minute Zoom initial consultation, where you can ask me any questions and we can talk through your initial ideas for your wedding cake. I shall confirm your approximate price again and you will read my T&C's, after which you are then required to pay a non-refundable booking fee (deducted from the final balance) of £100, which secures your date. A full bespoke design consultation can then be arranged, where we discuss in full detail your ideas and vision and how I can work with you to create the wedding cake of your dreams. Full design consultations are at present conducted online through the Zoom platform, usually around 6 months before your wedding day. Following your full design consultation, I will create a detailed write up of your final design together with a hand drawn fine art sketch of your cake.

When should I place an order?

Luxury cakes require planning and I request as much notice as possible for a cake order. Wedding cake orders generally require a minimum notice of 6 months at present, although I recommend booking earlier to guarantee availability!

How do you price your cakes?

My cake prices are calculated based on the ingredients I have used, the time I have taken to bake and decorate a cake and the skill level required to complete the decorative techniques. My signature sugar floristry, floral painting and royal icing piping work can be time consuming and it has taken me many years to learn and refine it, reflective of my cake prices. You only want the best for your wedding cake and therefore I only use the highest quality ingredients available, again, this is reflected in my prices. Ultimately, the price of your cake will depend on the complexity of the design and the size you require. Take a look at my Cake Prices page to get a clearer idea of my pricing and how it links with sizing and portions.

Do you cater for particular dietary requirements?

I cannot offer vegan cakes currently, but plan on being able to do so in the near future (watch this space!). I am unable to make cakes with a low sugar content or cakes suitable for people with diabetes at this time.

Do you take on orders for non wedding cakes? Is there anything you do not do?

I am also able to make cakes for birthdays and other such special occasions. However, novelty cakes are not my speciality and I am therefore unable to take on orders for this type of cake.
Additionally, I regret I cannot take on order requests involving edible printing or artificial/silk flowers (rather than fresh or sugar flowers).
I create my own designs and therefore do not produce exact copies of cakes by other designers.

Do I need to put down a deposit?

Once you have decided to book me as your cake designer, I require a £100 non refundable booking fee in order to secure your date. The full bespoke design process/consultation/artist cake sketch cannot begin until your booking fee has been received.

How does wedding cake delivery work?

I deliver my wedding cakes (and favours, if applicable) to Bristol and it's close surrounding areas only at present.  I can deliver your cake to your venue and this is the safest option, a £45 fee+mileage is charged for this secure delivery and set up service, the fee will be higher if the set up is more complex than standard.

All other cakes and baked confectionary items are to be collected from my home kitchen. Please be aware that as soon as goods are collected from my home, I cannot be held responsible for any damages which may occur.

Do you hire out cake stands?

Cake stand hire is available for my wedding cakes. I have many beautiful stands and a stand befitting the style of your cake will quite simply make it look even more spectacular! If you would like to hire one of my high quality cakes stands, a security bond totaling the cost of the stand chosen is required to cover any potential loss or damages, which is refunded once the stand is returned and if it isn’t damaged in any way. Cake stand hire is £15 for up to 5 days, after which time you will need to return it to me at an agreed suitable time.

Allergen info - Are your cakes suitable for people who have food allergies or food intolerances?

Since my cakes are produced in a small kitchen that use NUTS, EGGS, MILK, SOYA, SESAME, GLUTEN and ALCOHOL, I cannot guarantee that a particular product is free from allergen traces. There is always a risk that a product has come into contact with allergen items. Therefore, I regret my cakes are unsuitable for people with food allergies and intolerances. Please contact me if you have any specific questions/concerns about allergens.
